43.1 Adventures – FAQ

Last Updated: September 2026

A quick note from us:
We're a snowboard coaching school, and that's what we do best. We don't arrange flights, hotels, or tours—so you're free to plan your own trip your way. Everything below is here to help you prepare for your lessons with us. If you ever need general tips, just ask—we're always happy to share what we know.

Before You Go
1. Do I need a visa to visit China for a snowboard trip?

Singapore passport holders: No visa required for stays up to 30 days for tourism purposes. This has been in effect since 9 February 2024.

Malaysia passport holders: No visa required for stays up to 30 days under the mutual visa exemption agreement.

Other nationalities: Visa-free entry policies vary. Many countries currently benefit from China's unilateral visa-free arrangements, but eligibility and permitted stay duration differ by nationality. We strongly recommend checking the latest policy through the Chinese embassy or consulate in your country before booking travel.

Important: All travelers must complete a China Arrival Card. We recommend submitting it digitally 48–72 hours before departure via the National Immigration Administration website or app to reduce arrival wait times.

2. Do I need a border permit for Altay?

For Jiangjunshan Resort and Altay City: No border permit required.

If you plan to visit border areas: The following locations require a Border Management Area Pass (边防证):

  • Baihaba Village (白哈巴村)
  • Baishahu (白沙湖)
  • China–Kazakhstan/India/etc border areas

How to apply: Foreign nationals must apply in person at a county-level or above public security bureau entry-exit administration department, presenting a valid passport and visa. The electronic Border Management Area Pass was introduced in April 2026; foreigners still need to apply on-site. Processing is typically free.

3. How do I arrange my own travel to Altay?

43.1 Adventures provides snowboard coaching only. We do not arrange or book flights, accommodation, or airport transfers. You are responsible for making your own travel arrangements to Altay.

To assist your own research, here is some general information:

  • Flights: There are no direct flights from Southeast Asia to Altay (AAT). You will need to book a domestic connection within China. Common transfer cities include Chengdu, Xi'an, Beijing, or Urumqi. We recommend booking through airlines or online travel platforms directly.
  • Airport Transfer: The airport is about 10 km from Altay City. You can arrange a taxi or ride-hailing service upon arrival.
  • Booking Tip: For the snow season (December–February), we suggest booking flights 2–3 months in advance, as seats fill quickly.

Reminder: Bring your passport with you to the resort every day—it is required for lift pass purchase and equipment rental.

The Coaching Experience
4. Why choose Jiangjunshan Resort for snowboard lessons?

Jiangjunshan International Resort is one of China's premier powder snow destinations and offers several advantages for beginners:

  • Dedicated beginner area: A large, separate practice zone with gentle magic-carpet slopes, designed specifically for those new to snowboarding
  • Soft snow conditions: Powder snow means falls hurt less, making the learning process more comfortable
  • Progression-friendly terrain: Beyond the beginner zone, there are intermediate and advanced runs suitable for those looking to progress after lessons
  • Convenient location: Jiangjunshan is China's only alpine resort located within a city, with accommodation, dining, and medical facilities on-site and Altay City just 3 kilometers away
5. What are the lift ticket prices?

Published rates are based on the latest available resort guidance. The following are reference prices for the 2026–27 snow season only.

Note:

  • Public Holidays (eg Jan 1, CNY) ~ Additional CNY 100 per pass.
  • With Snowboard + Boots ~ Additional CNY 50~ up per pass

6. How do I get from Altay City to Jiangjunshan Resort?

You will need to arrange your own transport to the resort each day. Here are some general options for your reference:

  • Taxi: A short 10–15 minute ride. You can book through your hotel or a ride-hailing app. Winter roads can be slippery, so booking in advance is recommended.
  • Public Bus: There is a local bus service between Altay City and the resort entrance. You can check schedules and fares locally.
7. I've never been on snow before. How many days of lessons do I need?

We recommend a 3-day core foundation, with 4 to 5 days ideal for consolidating your technique and comfortably riding green and gentle intermediate (blue) runs.

Snowboarding has a steep initial learning curve. Spreading your lessons over multiple days gives your body and muscle memory time to adapt safely:

  • Day 1: Balance & Stopping — Equipment setup, stance, basic sliding, and learning how to fall safely on gentle flat terrain.
  • Day 2: Edge Control & Steering — Developing toe- and heel-edge awareness, side-slipping, and executing your first single-turn transitions.
  • Day 3: Linking Turns — Connecting heel-to-toe turns consistently on beginner slopes and mastering speed control.
  • Days 4 & 5: Refinement & Intermediate Progression — Consolidating your turn mechanics, adapting to longer slopes, and building the confidence to ride green and gentle intermediate (blue) runs under guided instruction.

Rushing onto steeper terrain before mastering edge control can lead to fatigue or unnecessary falls. Our multi-day progression ensures you build a safe, solid technique that lasts.

8. What language do your coaches teach in?

Our coaches are Chinese nationals and teach primarily in Chinese.

English instructors / translators: Available upon request. Please contact our team prior to booking to check availability.

9. How do I book a course, and which course should I choose?

Please visit our Courses & Booking page for full details on course levels, pricing, and how to reserve your spot. If you're unsure which level suits you, just reach out—we're happy to help you choose.

10. Is there a minimum age for lessons? Can children join?

We accept students aged 8 and above for snowboard lessons. For children under 8, we do not offer formal snowboard coaching.

Lesson Format by Age:

  • 8 to 9 years old: Only one-on-one (1:1) private coaching is available.
  • 10 years old and above: Both one-on-one (1:1) and one-on-two (1:2) coaching are available.

For students under 18:

A parent or legal guardian must sign the Service Agreement, Health Declaration, waiver, and all consent forms on the student's behalf. Without a parent or guardian's signature, the student cannot participate in any lesson. This requirement applies regardless of whether the student is traveling independently.

The parent or guardian is also responsible for ensuring the student has valid travel insurance covering snowboarding.

Why age 8? At this age, most children have developed sufficient balance, coordination, attention span, and physical stamina to follow technical instructions and participate safely in a structured snowboard lesson. Younger children can still enjoy the snow, but formal snowboard instruction is not recommended before age 8.

11. What is the booking & cancellation policy?

Booking:
During snow season, please book at least 2 weeks (14 days) in advance. Coach schedules fill quickly during peak periods.

Cancellation Policy:

All cancellation requests must be submitted in writing via email to admin@431adventures.com. Deductions are calculated strictly from the calendar days remaining prior to the course start date:

  • Deposit Retention. If the deposit paid exceeds the calculable refund amount under the tiered schedule, the entire deposit will be retained.
  • Voluntary Abandonment. No refunds, credits, or make-up sessions will be granted for late arrivals, missed sessions, or voluntary departure after a course has commenced.
  • Medical Exceptions: Cancellations due to illness or injury prior to or during a course are evaluated individually upon presentation of an official medical certificate or official doctor's note. At our reasonable discretion, having regard to the circumstances and any supporting medical evidence, partial credits or rescheduling may be offered. In making this assessment, we will act in good faith and take into account the timing of the cancellation, the severity of the illness or injury, and the actual impact on instructor scheduling. If a monetary refund is unavailable, an official cancellation receipt will be issued to support travel insurance claims.
  • Force Majeure & Resort Closures: Full refunds or rescheduled coaching sessions apply only in the event of an official total closure of the ski resort due to extreme weather or local government directives. Any non-refundable third-party costs incurred directly on your behalf will be deducted prior to refund issuance.
12. What happens if the resort is closed or the weather is bad?

Jiangjunshan Resort operates seasonally, typically from November to April. Extreme weather such as heavy snow, high winds, or avalanche risk can occasionally lead to temporary closures or lift suspensions.

If the resort closes before or during your lesson:

  • We will contact you as soon as we receive official notice.
  • You may choose either a full refund or a rescheduled lesson (subject to coach availability).
  • This applies only if the closure is official and affects the entire resort, not just a single lift or run.

Important: Weather-related closures are beyond our control. We cannot guarantee compensation for inconvenience or travel costs incurred. We strongly recommend travel insurance that covers weather-related disruptions.

13. What should I do if I get injured during the lesson?

Your safety is our first priority. If an injury occurs during your lesson:

  • Notify your coach immediately. Do not attempt to continue snowboarding.
  • Resort medical assistance: Jiangjunshan has medical facilities on-site. Your coach will help you reach the medical station.
  • Emergency evacuation: If the injury is serious, the resort will arrange transport to Altay City or a hospital.
  • Contact your insurance provider: Your coach can assist with information, but you or your parent/guardian are responsible for contacting your insurance company and handling all claims.

Important: 43.1 Adventures does not provide medical insurance or cover medical expenses. Your own travel insurance is the primary source of coverage for any injury.

14. Can I get a refund if I can't participate due to injury or illness?

We review medical situations individually. While course fees are generally non-refundable close to the start date, we understand that health issues are beyond your control.

If you fall ill or get injured, please notify us immediately with an official doctor's note. We will evaluate your circumstances to determine if a refund, partial credit, or rescheduling is possible. If a refund isn't feasible, we will provide an official receipt and cancellation statement to support your travel insurance claim.

15. What can I do in my free time in Altay?

Your evenings are your own. Here are some general categories of activities available in Altay for you to explore independently:

  • Night Snowboarding: The resort may offer night sessions (check with them directly).
  • City Exploration: Altay Central Park is open 24/7 and is beautiful at night.

Safety & Health
20. Do I need travel insurance for snowboarding in Altay?

Yes. Holding valid travel insurance is a condition of participation for all 43.1 Adventures courses. You must have active coverage for the entire duration of your course that explicitly includes:

  • Winter sports / snowboarding (most standard policies exclude this)
  • Emergency medical evacuation and repatriation

We will ask you to confirm your policy details before your booking is finalized. If you do not hold adequate coverage, we cannot accept you onto the course.

For students under 18: The parent or legal guardian is responsible for ensuring the student is covered under a valid travel insurance policy.

21. I have a pre-existing medical condition. Can I still snowboard?

Yes. All participants must complete and sign a Health Declaration Form before their first lesson. This is mandatory, regardless of age, skill level, or prior experience with us.

If your Health Declaration discloses any of the following, you must provide a doctor's clearance letter stating you are fit for snowboarding. The letter must be dated within 6 months prior to your course start date:

  • Cardiovascular conditions (heart disease, uncontrolled high blood pressure, arrhythmia);
  • Respiratory conditions (asthma, chronic bronchitis);
  • Epilepsy, seizures, or loss of consciousness;
  • Severe osteoporosis or bone/joint conditions;
  • Surgery within the past 6 months;
  • Injury within the past 6 months that may affect snowboarding;
  • Medications that may affect balance, coordination, or alertness;
  • A doctor's advice to avoid strenuous activity or high-risk sports;
  • Pregnancy;
  • Any other condition that may affect your safety on the mountain.

This requirement applies regardless of age. A healthy 65-year-old with no disclosed risk factors does not need a doctor's clearance letter. A 45-year-old with a disclosed heart condition does. The trigger is your health condition, not your age.

You are required to disclose any pre-existing medical condition to 43.1 Adventures before your course begins. This allows us to assess whether additional safety measures or adjustments are needed, and to ensure your participation is appropriate.

Failure to disclose a pre-existing medical condition that may affect your ability to participate safely may result in you being unable to join the course, and 43.1 Adventures cannot be held liable for any injury, illness, or loss arising from an undisclosed condition.

Your safety is our priority. If you are unsure whether your condition is relevant, please disclose it and let us make that assessment with you.

22. I had a recent or past injury. Do I need to inform you before the lesson?

Yes, absolutely. You must disclose any recent injuries, surgeries, or ongoing physical limitations in your Health Declaration Form before your lesson begins. This helps your coach tailor the lesson pace, focus on safe movements, and protect vulnerable body parts.

Relevant conditions include (but are not limited to):

  • Fractures & Sprains: Wrist, collarbone, elbow, tailbone, ankle, or rib injuries.
  • Joint Issues: Knee (e.g., ACL/MCL), shoulder dislocations, or hip injuries.
  • Head & Neck: Concussions, head trauma, or spinal/neck conditions.
  • Medical Interventions: Any condition currently requiring ongoing physiotherapy, brace support, or medical clearance.

If you have had surgery within the past 6 months, you must provide a doctor's clearance letter before participating.

Please note: If you are recovering from a major injury or surgery, you should ensure you have received clearance from your physician to participate in snow sports. If you are unsure whether an injury might affect your lesson, please let us know in advance so we can adjust our instruction plan accordingly.

23. Will I get altitude sickness in Altay?

Jiangjunshan Resort: Altitude is approximately 1,100–1,300 meters. At this elevation, altitude sickness is extremely unlikely.

Other resorts in Altay: Some areas are higher, ranging from 2,000–3,100 meters. At these elevations, some individuals may experience mild altitude symptoms.

For snowboarding at Jiangjunshan specifically, altitude sickness should not be a concern.
