Altay: The Cradle of Human Skiing
Birthplaces of Skiing
The earliest traces of skiing weren’t found in the Alps or Hokkaido — but in Altay. Over 12,000 years ago, ancient rock carvings at Dunderbrak depicted early hunters gliding across snowy plains on fur-covered skis. In 2015, experts from 18 countries officially recognized Altay as the origin of human skiing.
